1st Aid Success at The DOJO Karate Centre

11 members passed their 1st Aid Course at The DOJO Karate Centre. The course was run by John Watters from NorthWest 1st Aid. The course delivery was humerous and to the point which everyone really enjoyed. It is clear that The DOJO Karate Centre is doing what it can to equip members to deal with emergency situations should they occur in our Class and in their general life, thus making The DOJO Karate Centre the premier martial arts club in Rochdale.

£1900 for Pakistan Flood Appeal

All members of The DOJO Karate Centre (Rochdale) raised £950 to aid the Pakistan Flood Appeal. The Money was given to OXFAM via BUPA who are matching our contribution to make a grand total of £1900. Sensei Ansari has instilled into our members that "if we help someone today then someone will be there to help us in our time of need." He passes on a very special WELDONE to all who contributed.

LEAVING THE FIELD WELL BEHIND

Iqra Waheed, 13yrs, is not only outstanding in Martial Arts, she had also won outstanding awards in Swimming. Iqra trains 3 times per week at The DOJO Martial Arts Centre, Castlemere St, Rochdale and is currently ranked Blue Belt with her younger brother Sulayman. Iqra swims for Rochdale and has won many events. Her biggest success in swimming came when she won the Best Junior Shield, and the Best Lady Shield which is an open age category. These shields are given to people who have performed best throughout the year. Sensei Irfan Ansari said, “We are very keen to promote the success of our members from other aspects of life and not just those achieved within the martial arts. Iqra is a shining example of what our kids are capable of achieving through an attitude of ‘there is always room for improvement’. She is very well mannered and always tries hard to improve in each session. Even if they don’t wish to do martial arts, I hope more parents encourage their kids to join into organised sports to bring life-long health benefits to their family.”

Literacy Club @ The DOJO

This Kids class at The DOJO participates in the month long Literacy campaign to raise the importance of Children and Adults making the time to read whenever they get the opportunity. The Work was carried out in conjuction with Hele Chicot of the Literacy Group who brought lots of books in for our members to make use of. Now our youngsters are not only becomeing good at Karate, but also improving their intellect. This why parents keep telling us that we are;

MUCH MORE THAN A KARATE CLUB!

CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME!

At the recent Black Belt Grading we had 46 members who participated. Form these everyone under 16yrs had to raise money for a charity in accord with our GOOD CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM. The DOJO members managed to raise £275 for the British Red Cross. The Club Secretary, Mark Lineker help organise the event with Sensei Irfan Ansari. Sensei Irfan said ‘We have to instil into our youngsters the feeling of Gratitude and Charity, and that if we help someone today, then someone will be there to help us in time of our need tomorrow. At The DOJO, we have made it a part of our young members requirements that they improve their character alongside learning martial arts to become more contributing members of society. We have had many signed statements from both parents and teachers saying that they have seen a vast improvement in confidence, leadership, volunteerism and other associated good character traits in their children who attend our classes.”
