2 members of The DOJO Karate Centre have become Black Belts. Katie Eccles has been a member of The DOJO since 1998. She had been training on/off and due to academic endeavour missed 3 years of formal training. Katie, who travels to Rochdale’s Castlemere Street based DOJO from Glossop 3 times each and every week, achieved her 3rd Dan at the recent Grading held at The DOJO under the watchful eye of Sensei Irfan Ansari (6th Dan). Sensei Ansari said ‘Katie is very talented and has also progressed onto becoming a fully fledged Senior instructor within The DOJO Karate Centre and runs the LADIES ONLY on WED (6.45-7.45pm) each week.’
Sulayman Waheed has been training regularly since 2009. He is diligent and focussed in his approach, and a very courteous and well liked members of the Club. Sulayman will now focus on his studies in preparation to attend university next year.
Sensei Ansari mentioned ‘there is a real and apparent ‘sense of achievement’ in accomplishing a task well done. This is the whole purpose of attaining the Black Belt standard. It reflects well on the realities of the ups and downs of life and shows us all that anything is achievable as long as you stick to it. We always say ‘a Black Belt is a White Belt that never gave up.’ This itself is a vital lesson the youngsters of today should abide by.’
